Goofy, also known as Goofy in English, is an iconic character in the Disney universe, celebrated in cartoons and comics as Mickey's best friend. His story dates back to 1932, when he was created by Pinto Colvig and Johnny Cannon to appear as a supporting character in the Mickey Mouse shorts. However, it was animator Art Babbitt who definitively defined the character in 1935, while Floyd Gottfredson helped develop him further in the comics, giving him a main supporting role alongside Mickey Mouse. Goofy's design is distinctive and unforgettable: he is a dog anthropomorphic, tall and lanky, with a long snout from which two large square incisors emerge. He wears scruffy clothes, such as an orange sweater (red in the comics), a black vest, patched blue pants, and long, misshapen brown shoes. His green hat, originally a battered fedora, has become an icon of the character. Although he is often portrayed as clumsy and careless, Goofy occasionally displays a more intuitive and intelligent side, albeit in an eccentric manner. He is caring and understanding, always ready to help even if he often ends up causing more harm than good. Over the years, variations on the character have been introduced, such as his alleged birthday date of February 29 and his family, consisting of a wide range of cousins and great-great, who played a relevant role in a saga published in 2006 on Mickey Mouse titled ''Goofy's Great-Great''. In the shorts, Goofy was presented with a wife, such as Penny or Mrs. Geef, although his face was always hidden, helping to delineate his role as ''man of the house ''. Later, as shown in Goof Troop, Goofy appears as a widower and single father, busy raising his teenage son Max. This deepening of his family relationships made the character even richer and more multifaceted.
